 Kontrast type tags (i.e. values of the type attribute of kontrast elements).

Note that although annotators marked each word as one of the following types, all categories except for background are meant to be types of kontrast (excluding non-applic), i.e. there is an underlying opposition between kontrast and background.

Values Description
correction corrects or clarifies another word or NP just used by the other speaker
contrastive contrasts with another word or NP used in the discourse that is semantically related to the current word, such that they could both belong to a plausible set
subset a member of a more general set mentioned in the context
adverbial the focus of a focus-sensitive adverb, i.e. only, even, always, especially, just, also, too
answer fills an open proposition (such as wh-focus) set up by the context (there doesn't have to be an explicit question
other salient in comparison or contrast to another element evoked by the context, but not explicitly mentioned (only used if no other categories apply)
background not kontrastive, word either not salient, or no implication of alternative sets
nonapplic not marked for kontrast status, e.g. because discourse marker
