Last Thursday the Enhance team had the pleasure of attending the launch event for Edinburgh’s Georgian Shadows – a celebration of the 250th birthday of Edinburgh’s New Town. Running every evening (5:30pm – 8:30pm) until the 26th March, Edinburgh’s Georgian Shadows is a free outdoor exhibition consisting of projections and lighting installations, which bring the historic streets and monuments of the New Town to life by illuminating them with images and tales of former residents.
Guided by a friendly and knowledgeable ‘link-boy‘, we took a tour from the magnificent Dundas House on St Andrew Square, along George Street to the Assembly Rooms, where we were welcomed with a reception in the ornate settings of the Ballroom. It was enlightening to learn more about the Assembly Rooms’ own 230 year history as the social epicentre of the New Town. And, with our research hats loosely donned, it was great to experience the venue in action and have informal discussions with some of the members of staff as they contributed towards a memorable evening! I wonder what the staff in the early 1800s would have thought of our preoccupation with energy use, as they stood beneath the candlelit chandeliers.
