Biography

Sandra has been a research associate in the Data-Intensive Research Group at the University of Edinburgh from April to July 2013, en route from University of Tübingen, Germany to University of Notre Dame, US. She is a research assistant professor at the University of Notre Dame working on science gateways and workflows for the life sciences, currently focused on disease modeling and simulations. Before joining the DIR Group she was a research associate in the area of Science Gateways and Grid Computing in the Applied Bioinformatics Group in Tübingen. Additionally, she has perennial experience as a project manager and system developer in industry. As head of a system programmer group, she has led long-term software projects (e.g. infrastructure on web-based applications) for a major insurance company.

Sandra received her German diploma in computer science from extramural studies at the FernUniversität Hagen and her PhD in computer science from the University of Tübingen. Her research interests include science gateways for bioinformatic applications, grid and cloud computing, parallel programming, and GPU programming. She is the editor of a couple of proceedings and special issues. The workshop series IWSG-Life has been set up and is guided by her.
