The James Fleck archive

• Professor James Fleck has conducted extensive research on the development and establishment of AI at Edinburgh and beyond. He has also conducted research on the history of robotics and the Alvey Programme. For various reasons this research material has remained under-analysed and stored privately. This material includes recorded - yet not transcribed - interviews with key AI scientists from 1979 to 1990 and a number of documents and reports. We are currently in the process of establishing an official installation of the Fleck archive at the University of Edinburgh Library. We have digitalised the cassette recordings that can be available to interested researchers upon request and discussion of their project.

This website has been built by Prof Chris Williams , Dr Vassilis Galanos and Ms Xiao Yang, as part of the Edinburgh AI&CS History Project. This work is funded by the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, February-July 2024.
