* OGSA-DAI SQL views components, previously released in December 2008, have now been refactored and fully-integrated. SQL views now use many of the same SQL parsing components as DQP.
* Generic activities contributed by the ADMIRE project. These prototype activities allow you to do joins or transform a stream of tuples using a scripting language such as JavaScript.
* JDBC-based relational resources that support connection pooling using the Apache Commons DBCP package.
* Data sink and data source operations that support sequence numbers. This allows clients to be implemented that can resynchronize with a server in the event of a network outage.
* Data sinks and data sources now support non-blocking read and write operations.
* A trace facility to view the execution of an OGSA-DAI workflow via a JSP page has been added.
* An example web server file caching activity that streams data into a server file and a RESTful interface to allow access to these files is included.
* Example KML activities and supporting classes to convert OGSA-DAI tuples into KML documents are included.
* Changes to the OGSA-DAI configuration and deployment make it easier to express complex configuration requirements and copy configurations across servers.
* Java 1.6-compliance.
* Numerous bug fixes.

A WS-DAI implementation using OGSA-DAI: Challenges and experiences

OGSA-DAI provides an extensible framework that allows data resources to be incorporated into distributed systems. The WS-DAI (Web Service Data Access and Integration) family of specifications defines web service interfaces to data resources, such as relational or XML databases. Providing reference implementations for such specifications is important for the improvement of the specifications and the satisfaction of the interoperability goal. This was one of the three reasons that motivated the OGSA-DAI project team to implement these specifications; a second was that the versatility of OGSA-DAI could be demonstrated and finally provides an interface with more specific semantics. In this paper we discuss the experiences and the challenges derived from this work.

The OGSA-DAI project, a partner in OMII-UK, in collaboration with BEinGRID (http://www.beingrid.eu), have released the OGSA-DAI 3.1 SQL views extension pack 1.0. This is a proof-of-concept of an implementation of SQL views in OGSA-DAI 3.1 which allows SQL views to be defined over read-only relational databases. It also provides a layer in which the users Grid credentials can be used to determine the information presented in the view. This is part of OGSA-DAI's ongoing work to support more powerful data access, control and management scenarios.

The extension pack is free, open source, 100% Java and is licenced under the Apache 2.0 licence. It is compatible with OGSA-DAI 3.1
