Privacy protection for medical data in clouds

Data protection is a great concern when dealing with medical data because it contains sensitive personal information.
Nevertheless, medical research could greatly profit from researchers being able to share data across institutional borders in
a safe way. There is a trade-off between privacy protection and research interests avoiding to extreme data removals or
data generalisations that could damage the scientific objectives of the projects.

The open question is how to reconcile these two opposing interests and exploring the techniques for implementing secure
data sharing mechanism for medical data in cloud platforms. We are particularly interested in sharing medical images due
to our participation in SINAPSE (Scottish Imaging Network A Platform for Scientific Excellence)(http://www.sinapse.ac.uk/),
but applications for other type of medical data can be also of interest.
