[1:04]
Well I'll uh start just with another presentation, so then we can uh look at th- at the agenda uh for this meeting.
[1:10]
[1:13]
$ Okay.
[1:15]
[1:16]
I've put some uh new things in the in the (map).
[1:19]
[1:21]
Uh oh. #
[1:22]
[1:23]
This is it.
[1:24]
[1:25]
I don't know the shortcut so - Ah F_ five. Well our functional design meeting, that's the stage we're in, and you also ha- all three of you have uh prepared something about it.
[1:37]
[1:39]
Well um in- we'll (the) just have a look at the at the notes from the previous meeting, what we uh thought we had dec- decided but uh -
[1:49]
[1:50]
Uh then we'll uh look at the the three uh presentations uh from you.
[1:56]
[1:57]
I think you have prepared uh all three uh? $ Um we'll look at th- the new project requirements we uh - I dunno (y-) you also have uh received that mail, the new project requirements from our bosses?
[2:10]
[2:12]
Oh I've received a mail with uh some additional requirements and I'll have a look if - well I think we should show them before your presentations because it's not really uh
[2:22]
[2:23]
smart uh to uh to include some things uh we can't because of the new requirements. Well um then we can make some decisions about our remote control functions. We have to (d- b-) we have to decide it in this meeting what our function will be.
[2:38]
[2:39]
And then uh we can discuss uh some more (closely). Uh -
[2:44]
[2:45]
Uh yeah I think so. $ Well uh (??) the closing uh we'll not uh look at it yet.
[2:54]
[2:55]
Uh (I'll) now I'll look at (??) show (it at uh) this board.
[3:0]
[3:04]
Um.
[3:5]
[3:06]
Well uh (notes, first) meeting.
[3:8]
[3:11]
Now.
[3:11]
[3:12]
I gave a disc- a a presentation. Uh we familiarized ourself with the boards and then we discussed some first ideas. So
[3:21]
[3:22]
we said that uh
[3:23]
[3:24]
we have to merge the strong points from our uh competitors, and uh look at their uh remote controls. We should make it uh compatible with our new D_V_D_ and other releases we have - our technical releases. Uh not too many (??) buttons. One recognisable button in the middle where you do the most important functions with, and um well they can have two functions because uh you have a D_V_D_ and a television.
[3:49]
[3:50]
Um the design has to fit the hand, be original but also be familiar.
[3:55]
[3:56]
$ It's uh (one of our ideas). $ Yeah well (that wa-) it's just thirty minutes ago, it's not quite uh, $ but well uh I have to do it. The materials uh well should be hard plastic with rubber from (??), and uh well the labeling of the buttons should be indestructible. It should be uh recognisable at all times. Yes. Well fronts were to be (??) just like mobile telephones.
[4:20]
[4:21]
And uh the technical aspects um - and also labeling of the buttons, the functions should be universal standards. Well that's just uh some ideas from the first meeting. It's quite logical al- all of it.
[4:33]
[4:35]
Um now the new project requirements, I'll just show them. I got this mail
[4:39]
[4:40]
from uh our bosses. Well, teletext goes out. We will not use teletext.
[4:48]
[4:49]
Maybe a new sort of thing but n- but not teletext. Well -
[4:53]
[4:54]
the second is a bit
[4:56]
[4:58]
sh- pity because we just said we wanted to d- include the D_V_D_ and they don't want it because of our time we have for this project.
[5:6]
[5:07]
So that's a shame because uh especially for the third requirement we want to reach people under the thirty years
[5:14]
[5:16]
because uh we don't have those customers a lot (at th- at this) point. Um well it's a bit pity because* (i- it's) just those people (who) want to have uh one remote control for all those technical devices they can uh reach it.
[5:29]
[5:30]
Yeah.
[5:31]
[5:32]
Well and uh our corporate image should stay rec- recognisable in our products, so uh we have to uh use uh maybe a slogan maybe a colour and um - Yeah well uh on our remote controls the design has to be uh well as we already said a- actually familiar. Uh not only just uh the shape but also our company.
[5:56]
[6:02]
$ Yeah.
[6:8]
[6:09]
Okay.
[6:10]
[6:13]
Yes I I uh noted uh our uh slogan that we have, our company, it's uh we mm put the fashion in electronics.
[6:22]
[6:23]
So maybe that's a slogan we can put uh somewhere on our remote control or something. Alright then um we're going to uh have three presentations. You want to start? $ Oh you have to start? I didn't see anything about uh who had to start. Well s- then* start.
[6:40]
[6:44]
Okay. Well uh -
[6:46]
[6:59]
Oh (??) you already uh opened uh PowerPoint.
[7:1]
[7:06]
Yeah.
[7:6]
[7:10]
Mm-hmm.
[7:10]
[9:40]
It should actually uh - It should actually be loose from the television because it can also be used for other televisions. So if you deliver a small uh click-on device that you can put on your television that bleeps to your uh remote control everyone can use it. No you can click it on your television.
[9:57]
[10:01]
$ Yeah in another room, yeah. Well yes.
[10:5]
[10:10]
Yep.
[10:10]
[10:12]
(No) we'll have a look at it, yeah.
[10:14]
[10:56]
(Well there) sh- should always be a menu but it c- can be very short.
[10:59]
[11:03]
Yes okay.
[11:4]
[11:22]
Well we are a design team, we can say to some uh writer uh make a manual, point.
[11:26]
[11:27]
So-
[11:27]
[11:29]
Well we'll have a look. Um yes.
[11:31]
[12:31]
Well with twelve Euro fifty as production cost we can't uh afford an L_C_D_ uh -
[12:38]
[12:53]
(Well) yeah well uh it's your your task to uh look into the costs uh of those uh $ (Ni-) I know. $
[13:3]
[13:18]
It's not yet a standard uh development uh those so -
[13:22]
[13:22]
We sh-
[13:23]
[13:26]
Yeah absolutely.
[13:27]
[13:35]
Yep.
[13:35]
[13:37]
(??)
[13:38]
[13:38]
'Kay.
[13:39]
[13:54]
Well you - I c- I can uh still see your presentation.
[13:56]
[13:58]
(??) Well uh next um I dunno who is next. You uh got uh -
[14:3]
[14:04]
Yes well go ahead.
[14:6]
[14:21]
F_ five.
[14:22]
[14:24]
$ F_ five.
[14:25]
[14:27]
$
[14:30]
[14:43]
$
[14:44]
[16:23]
#
[16:23]
[16:34]
Yeah.
[16:35]
[16:43]
So it is also why we have to um have a button that says uh I'm now busy with a D_V_D_ uh if we('d) had done that, and a button for T_V_, so.
[16:53]
[17:00]
$
[17:2]
[18:14]
Well but but # if you have um the most used buttons all in one place, and you keep making the same um well moves, but if y- if you would put it at a different place then you have to move your hands and that's on of the things about R_S_I_*.
[18:31]
[18:35]
No but the most important buttons m- maybe you can just put them a bit apart so you would
[18:41]
[18:42]
reject R_* R_S_I_* R_S_I_.
[18:44]
[18:52]
Yes I've saw that on m- on mi- mobile telephones they also have uh those buttons.
[18:56]
[19:04]
Well it- it's.
[19:5]
[19:09]
Well also i- if someone puts - # picks up his uh remote.
[19:13]
[19:15]
If someone puts up i- uh picks up his remote and he (picks it up) but he he touches the side then he's a- already on the next channel. That's very irritating, I think - well. $ No.
[19:28]
[19:45]
Yep.
[19:46]
[19:51]
Mm.
[19:51]
[19:54]
$ That's your part of the job. $
[19:57]
[19:59]
Yep.
[19:59]
[20:06]
$ Okay well we understand, we understand. Oh right, no.
[20:15]
[20:17]
Nice.
[20:17]
[20:18]
Then uh Mike can uh give the third presentation.
[20:21]
[20:24]
(How late ?) did we start his presentation. #
[20:27]
[20:31]
Yeah.
[20:32]
[20:33]
Well then we have still the time so. $ (But) we do have to come to a decision.
[20:38]
[20:41]
So $ (??).
[20:44]
[20:57]
Oh yeah?
[20:58]
[20:59]
Oh.
[20:59]
[21:03]
$ Okay yeah well.
[21:5]
[21:09]
Mm-hmm.
[21:10]
[21:21]
Yeah.
[21:22]
[21:37]
Yeah.
[21:37]
[21:38]
I'd like (??). $ Yeah.
[21:42]
[21:44]
(We also do that.)
[21:45]
[22:06]
Yeah.
[22:6]
[22:11]
$
[22:12]
[22:38]
Mm-hmm.
[22:38]
[22:40]
Well absolutely but i- th- they all have to have something about um the recognition from our company, so we (cannot) just uh
[22:49]
[22:50]
make someone w-
[22:51]
[22:53]
No but (that's th-) the side they look uh look at is the front. So if y- if you make a a front with just a a tiger on it then uh our recognition is totally gone.
[23:4]
[23:12]
Yeah well and and -
[23:13]
[23:15]
Yes.
[23:15]
[23:17]
'Kay.
[23:17]
[23:24]
Yeah yeah yeah or the th- the the lowest part of the remote isn't changed by the front. Those kind of things, yes. Okay.
[23:32]
[23:42]
Hmm.
[23:42]
[24:05]
Yeah.
[24:5]
[24:10]
Alright.
[24:11]
[24:12]
Yeah.
[24:12]
[24:39]
Well what if we um I (at) I at home have a remote that has um the most familiar uh buttons on the top and the bottom side of the front has a little clip*, a f- a little uh - you can click away and then you have f- much more functions that most people don't use but s- some do* do.
[25:0]
[25:08]
Well but because you say they their features are important they want m- um a lot, but not -
[25:13]
[25:38]
Uh c- $ competitors. $
[25:40]
[25:41]
$
[25:42]
[25:47]
Yeah. Well maybe w- we could uh (??) on um some uh calculators you have lo- those little little L_C_D_ (th-) that you can click on or something (or that you can) click uh out uh of the remote and if if that's gives you a little bit of sta- (status) information. Yeah.
[26:5]
[26:07]
Those kind of things uh because you also have those uh those program recognition for your V_ V_C_R_s.
[26:13]
[26:14]
And uh well if y- if your remote picks that up also you they can display which programme you're currently watching.
[26:21]
[26:33]
For example
[26:33]
[26:35]
it it could be (such) a little uh th- that you can click in and out and you and you have it.
[26:38]
[26:45]
Well maybe.
[26:46]
[26:59]
R_D_S_(s) (or) something.
[27:1]
[27:10]
Well I think it's you got - (it just means it's a script that's uh) keeps it uh rolling and it's not uh - that's five minutes off uh implementing time I think uh.
[27:20]
[27:21]
Yeah.
[27:21]
[27:23]
No.
[27:23]
[27:26]
Uh well I think so, yes. Um -
[27:28]
[27:33]
we're g- no (??). We'll have to look into that.
[27:35]
[27:37]
Um we can use this board again, I think. Uh we can put some um decisions about um the controls we want th- the issue (??). # Where is my presentation? $ Uh.
[27:51]
[27:53]
(??)
[27:54]
[27:55]
Uh.
[27:56]
[28:03]
Well.
[28:3]
[28:04]
(??) We're all* here now, I think. These I've already given you, so we have to decide on the different remote control functions.
[28:12]
[28:14]
So we want to have a small L_C_D_ screen that's special.
[28:18]
[28:22]
Yeah.
[28:22]
[28:26]
Yeah.
[28:27]
[28:32]
#
[28:33]
[28:34]
That thing is terrible.
[28:35]
[28:42]
Uh.
[28:43]
[29:24]
Well I th- I think Mike Mike has a point because um when when uh when I use a remote I l- I hate the buttons* but- buttons at the at the bottom. So and and I I like to use the ones
[29:37]
[29:38]
on the top, so, when I u- when I have (to have an) L_C_D_ (scr- window) -
[29:42]
[29:54]
Yes but w- w- we we don't want that. We don't want them to look like a calculator we want to look it like our original but familiar -
[30:2]
[30:06]
$ Yea-
[30:8]
[30:10]
Maybe a bic- uh better uh white uh - # we- white.
[30:14]
[30:15]
(??) Line width* width.
[30:18]
[30:23]
It's a bit off. Well. $
[30:26]
[30:28]
Well uh let's uh talk about that later uh. $
[30:30]
[30:34]
It's special pen.
[30:36]
[30:37]
Yeah. No.
[30:38]
[30:50]
I think it should be at the bottom* bottom.
[30:51]
[30:52]
Bottom, the L_C_D_.
[30:54]
[30:56]
Yeah.
[30:56]
[30:59]
Well but (uh) what what if we we first decide the different functions and then look at the design, because we have to decide this.
[31:7]
[31:09]
Yeah.
[31:9]
[31:20]
Well we have a power button. Guys -
[31:23]
[31:25]
Guys - $ We have a power button, setting buttons, L_C_D_ window, the number buttons -
[31:30]
[31:32]
#
[31:32]
[31:35]
Yes.
[31:36]
[31:43]
The mute button. I love that one.
[31:46]
[31:57]
Yes.
[31:57]
[31:59]
Yeah (yeah yeah yeah) well that's that's also design.
[32:2]
[32:03]
Yes.
[32:3]
[32:06]
Um.
[32:6]
[32:08]
Well h- ho-
[32:9]
[32:12]
Yes yes they are for some uh video uh -
[32:14]
[32:50]
Apart.
[32:50]
[32:52]
So people have to move their hands, and they get less uh complaints of R_S_I_.
[32:59]
[33:01]
(??)
[33:1]
[33:02]
That's what I always do because all my i- important buttons are on the same place.
[33:5]
[33:11]
Well not -
[33:11]
[33:16]
Yes.
[33:16]
[33:22]
Uh-huh.
[33:23]
[33:33]
Up and down far apart from each other.
[33:35]
[33:39]
Well not too much. $
[33:43]
[33:54]
Well for example the power button, you can -
[33:57]
[33:58]
(Well if) someone is constantly z- zapping (he's) not going to miss that (it) that the power button is not right beside it because I have (someone ??). So that one can be put away.
[34:8]
[34:11]
The power button can uh - be uh uh -
[34:14]
[34:16]
Yes oh man, five minutes. $
[34:21]
[34:22]
Yeah, well five minutes left. Yep.
[34:26]
[34:28]
Um how are we going to do it with those numbers?
[34:30]
[34:34]
Well I have it here.
[34:35]
[34:39]
Yeah well that's going to take too too much time. Yes.
[34:42]
[34:44]
Yes.
[34:44]
[34:46]
Well the L_C_D_ um you are Industrial, you are User Interface so I think it's going to go to Mike, but you will have to make a consensus with (??) well -
[34:59]
[35:01]
Well it's a bit hard because we are going to be uh individually. That's a bit uh
[35:5]
[35:06]
Yes.
[35:6]
[35:13]
Yes it is.
[35:14]
[35:18]
Well what if we're going to now decide about the functions and the design comes into the next round.
[35:23]
[35:25]
Plus the d- th- the design round is still to come eh?
[35:27]
[35:29]
Alright these functions, the number f- well yes, that's alright. W- the number function, are we going to uh do it like uh on Mike's screen with uh one button that says I'm going to do a t- two number digital?
[35:43]
[35:45]
How do you want it to do then?
[35:46]
[35:48]
It it has to r- recognise one as # there could still come more.
[35:52]
[35:58]
Yes.
[35:59]
[36:00]
Alright so no button for that.
[36:1]
[36:04]
Okay uh anyone any (one) oth- other functionalities of our uh remote?
[36:9]
[36:14]
So -
[36:14]
[36:31]
No we'd of just said we didn't uh -
[36:33]
[36:35]
# Well uh - $
[36:36]
[36:38]
# Um well because we can't integrate it with any other uh remotes all those buttons on those pictures are uh irrelevant. So just for a television is # all we need.
[36:49]
[36:55]
Teletext is gone, so all those buttons that # ar- are to do with teletext - oh screen placing.
[37:1]
[37:02]
We'll have uh those uh buttons about uh -
[37:4]
[37:06]
And uh there's two important ones we're l- f- forgetting. Uh there's (??) screen, you can make it wider and less wide, and the button that you can go to (??) for your video.
[37:16]
[37:20]
Those two, but it's just two, and we make (a clip).
[37:22]
[37:24]
That's a bit uh waste.
[37:25]
[37:28]
Yes.
[37:29]
[37:30]
Or at the top. $ Your L_C_D_ screen* is going to go. $
[37:34]
[37:38]
Yes.
[37:39]
[37:56]
Well I think they should in an in an isolated part of the remote.
[38:1]
[38:05]
Yes yes, well any other uh -
[38:8]
[38:12]
Go to video, that's always on your remote control. To (??) uh to (??). A_V_.
[38:18]
[38:21]
Well l- n- no- not at not at my remote.
[38:23]
[38:24]
Yeah.
[38:25]
[38:29]
I don't. I go to ninety-nine. $
[38:33]
[38:36]
Th- that's the button uh. (No.)
[38:37]
[38:47]
No you can ch- push zero, yeah. Yeah I I think that one button is uh - I use it uh -
[38:53]
[39:01]
Yeah.
[39:2]
[39:04]
(These) buttons I don't have buttons for channel setting especially on my remote.
[39:8]
[39:09]
It's it's incorporated with p- m- plus and down, uh those -
[39:13]
[39:26]
So we still (??) have one uh four.
[39:28]
[39:35]
Okay oh the okay button. $ Oh you always have in the centre and okay button for your menu. Menu button.
[39:44]
[39:47]
Channel setting menu (??). We have to go.
[39:51]
[39:54]
Okay.
[39:54]
[39:56]
So um save.
[39:58]
[40:01]
Yes see.
[40:1]
[40:04]
Yes I have put it in.
[40:5]
[40:08]
Here.
[40:8]
[40:09]
$
[40:10]
[40:19]
Alright.
[40:20]
[40:22]
Guys we're going to uh go to our uh rooms and uh we'll have to decide some things on our own I think.
[40:28]
[40:30]
$
[40:31]
[40:33]
Well see you uh - w- w- we have lunchtime, by the way, now uh so uh -
[40:37]
[40:38]
Lunch.
[40:39]
[40:42]
We didn't exactly do everything but - $
[40:45]
