About the Conference

SAFECOMP is an annual event reviewing the state of the art, experiences and new trends in the areas of computer safety, reliability and security. SAFECOMP was initiated by EWICS TC7 (European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems, Technical Committee 7) in 1979 and since then has been held in Germany (Stuttgart, Fulda), UK (Cambridge, Manchester, Gatwick), USA (West Lafayette, Anaheim), Italy (Como, Belgirate), France (Sarlat), Austria (Vienna), Norway (Trondheim), Switzerland (Zurich) and Poland (Poznan). The conference focuses on critical computer applications. It is intended to form a platform for technology transfer between academia, industry and research institutions.

SAFECOMP is a one-stream conference which, typically, attracts up to 150 participants.

Members of the IEE may wish to note that SAFECOMP'97 qualifies as a Continuing Professional Development activity for IEE members. CPD units are allocated based on the following criteria: 0.75 units per 1 hout interactive CPD (not including question and answer sessions; 0.5 units per 1 hour attendance only CPD.

Location

In 1997, SAFECOMP will be held at the campus of the University of York, which is situated in parkland on the outskirts of the medieval city of York. The many attractions of the city itself and the surrounding moors and dales make this a particularly congenial location for the conference. The historic walls and famous Minster are an irrestistible lure for visitors. The conference will include a reception on the Monday evening hosted by the Lord Mayor of York at the Guildhall in the centre of the city, and a Banquet on the Tuesday evening at the National Railway Museum.
